Are You Move-In Ready?

Don’t Forget These Apartment Cleaning Tools

Now that you’ve moved into your new Wilshaw apartment, you will want to keep it clean. Wilshaw features premium finishes and stainless steel appliances, so make sure you have the right tools for the job.

At Wilshaw, our apartments have easy-to-clean plank flooring throughout the main living areas, so you probably won’t need a heavy-duty vacuum. We have a few tips on items you’ll want to bring along.

Your Shopping List:

  • Microfiber cloths (often sold in a multipack)

  • Cleaning solutions (glass cleaner, granite countertop cleaner, stainless steel appliance cleaner, multipurpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner)

  • Microfiber extension tool

  • Microfiber mop

  • Toilet bowl brush

  • Lightweight vacuum cleaner with a hard floor setting

  • Caddy for cleaning solutions and cloths

Kitchen Countertops

The kitchen may be the space you clean the most often, especially if you enjoy cooking. Granite countertops can be cleaned with mild dish soap and warm water. Granite cleaner formulated for sealed granite countertops also works well. Never use abrasive cleaners or cloths on a granite countertop. To sanitize the countertops, a 50/50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and water works well.

Other Kitchen Surfaces

All apartments at Wilshaw feature stainless steel appliances. To remove fingerprints and smudges, use a cleaning solution specially formulated for stainless steel, and always wipe in the direction of the grain. Wilshaw also has smooth cooktop ranges, so cooktop cleaner is a necessity. Using a cooktop cleaner with a microfiber cloth will keep your range clean and shiny.

Bathroom and Laundry Areas

For the bathroom, you’ll need a toilet bowl brush, glass cleaner, and a multipurpose cleaner. The toilet bowl brush only has one use, obviously, but glass cleaner and multipurpose cleaner can be used on every other bathroom surface. Clean the mirror and fixtures with glass cleaner. Use a multipurpose cleaner on the sink and the bathtub. Glass cleaner can also be used on the outside of your in-home washing machine and clothes dryer.

Dusting and Window-Cleaning

Microfiber cloths come in handy for dusting surfaces in bedrooms and living areas. Ceiling fans also need to be dusted – look for a microfiber tool with a longer handle, so you can reach the tops of the blades.

Once you’ve dusted the fan and hard surfaces, you can move on to cleaning the windows and floors. Don’t let your view of Main Street or the Indianapolis Motor Speedway become hazy! Glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth will keep your large windows sparkling clean.

Floor Care

Last on the cleaning list will be your floors. Use the vacuum on area rugs, in the bedroom, and to remove loose debris from floors. A robot vacuum can reduce the time spent on floors and save time spent sweeping. A microfiber mop and hard floor cleaner can be used on the plank flooring in the living area and kitchen.

A quick trip to any home improvement store will get you set up to keep your apartment clean and feeling like home. If you’re ready for a modern luxury apartment that’s close to everything Indianapolis has to offer, call Wilshaw today at (317) 342-9441.
